The iconic publishing house "Navodaya Publishers" in Vijayawada has shut down and close its business. The publishing house which has been run for the past 59 years, has closed due to financial losses.

Initially "Navodaya Publishers" is started in Gudivada in 1957. After an year it is shifted to Vijayawada on Eluru Road. Since then it is an iconic publishing house in the city, for the people.

Book publishers shrink in size and many bookstores have gone out of business altogether, as todays generation shifted completely towards computers, smart phones, e-books etc..

Textile Ministry has given a hope to Andhra Pradesh Weavers by giving India Handloom Brand (IHB) tag to, ten Handloom Products in the state. This will help the weavers to promote their products in the global market.

With this IHB tag, the products can also be sols in all the retail malls in India. The brand is a direct way to penetrate the national market.

Below are the products which are given India Handloom Brand (IHB) tag

• Dharmavaram silk sari and Pavada of Anantapur district
• Madavaram cotton sari of Kadapa district
• Venkatagiri cotton sari of Nellore district
• Polavaram cotton sari of Krishna district
• Mangalagiri sari of Guntur district
• Uppada sari of East Godavari district

Vijayawada city witnessed "Happy Sunday" on the ever busy Bandar Road turning vehicle-free for a couple of hours in the morning and people enjoyed the variety of programmes organised on the occasion. Though, the roads were closed for a couple of hours for 5k run, 10k run, cyclothon on the first Sunday of the month, it was the first time that a main arterial road in the city at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium (IGMCS) was closed for a few hours to facilitate people to have leisure time.

Around 250 people had volunteered to participate in different programmes, which included running, cycling, skating, archery, traditional sports and games, stilt walking fire breathing, hulahoop dance by young girls and others attracted many.

The main purpose, according to Vijayawada Municipal Commissioner G Veerapandian was to increase awareness about health among people and at the same time provide a platform for the public to spend some quality leisure time. Expressing his happiness over the event, city police commissioner D Gautam Sawang assured complete cooperation from the police department for the programme.
VMC had organised the programme in collaboration with DEEP Trust, a NGO working for healthcare. VMC placed the concept of Happy Sunday in its Budget 2016-17. The first edition of Happy Sunday cost around Rs. 70,000. Buoyed by the success of the event, city administration had decided to make it a regular feature and hold it on the first Sunday of every month hereafter.

It was also decided to expand the programme to other parts of the city and next month, it would be held at five places-Gurunanak Colony, Pantakaluva Road, BRTS Road, KT Road, Krambay Road-in addition to Bandar Road (MG Road) at IGMCS.

From tomorrow, May 1st Air India is running a flight from Gannavaram that connects cities like San Francisco, New York and Chicago. Air India flight connects these cities with change of aircraft in New Delhi, but a single ticket is issued from Vijayawada.

Below is the schedule if you want to travel from Gannavaram to New York

• The flight Airbus A319, will start at 8.30 PM in Gannavaram and reach Delhi at 10.30 PM, where the travel time is exactly 2 hours
• You will have a Layover in New Delhi Airport for 3 hours 15 mins.
• You will get into New York flight Boeing 777, at 1.45 AM and reach New York city within 15 hours 10 mins
• The overall travel time is approx. 20 hours

This would help the flyers from Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam and Godavari Districts in the state and they need not to depend on Hyderabad or Chennai Airport to catch international flights.
