The open spaces at Velagapudi village in Thullur mandal have been witnessing hectic construction activity over the last one week. Two of the leading firms— L&T and Shapoorji Pallonji— which have bagged the bids for construction of a Secretariat complex, have begun work by deploying giant cranes.
Prefabricated sheds have been built to accommodate workers and senior engineers have been deputed to oversee work.
The Government of Andhra Pradesh has given a deadline for the two firms to complete the construction by June 15, paving the way for relocation of nearly 20,000 staff working in the AP Secretariat in Hyderabad to Amaravati. The complex would be divided into six blocks housing various departments, including the Chief Minister’s Office.
