The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation proposed widening and development of 15 main and internal roads at an estimated cost of Rs.18.66 crore in the city to ease traffic problems and complete Kanakadurga flyover works speedily.

The VMC officials are going to place the proposals in the corporation’s general body meeting for approval.

Already traffic on Hyderabad-Visakhapatnam road was diverted towards Ibrahimpatnam, Nuzvid and Hanuman Junction. The vehicles which seek to enter the city were diverted from Gollapudi to Nainavaram flyover and Inner Ring Road, Ramavarappadu. At the same time, city traffic was diverted towards Nainawaram flyover, Inner Ring Road, Nandamuri Nagar, Singh Nagar flyover, C.K. Reddy Road, B.R.T.S. Road and Ramavarappadu Ring Road. All these diversions have been suggested by the city police officials as Kanakadurga flyover works started.

To allow free flow of traffic on these diverted routes, the VMC proposed to widen and develop the following 15 main and internal roads. The officials proposed improvement and widening of Venkateswara Foundry Road at a cost of Rs.40 lakh, Ganapathi Rao Road with Rs.23 lakh, Yerrakatta Road from Chitti Nagar Junction to Frizerpeta ROB junction, Ganapathi Rao Raod with Rs.45lakh, RTC workshop road with Rs.198 lakh, Urmila Subba Rao Nagar Road to Kabela Road junction with Rs.15 lakh, Kabela Road from Urmila Subba Rao Nagar with Rs.60lakh, Joji Nagar Donka Road from Bypass Road junction with Rs.70 lakh, Krambay Road from National Highway 9 to Bypass Road junction with Rs.150 lakh, KT Road from Milk Project to Nehru statue centre with Rs.175 lakh, providing BT with hot mix process to CK Reddy Road from Meesala Raja Rao Bridge to Municipal limits with Rs.80lakh.

Apart from that, they also proposed widening and improvement of Nunna Road from Pipula Road Junction to NSC Bose Nagar DP Station with Rs.165 lakh, providing bT. road to Nandamuri Nagar main road from Nunna Road to Inner Ring Road with Rs.140 lakh, BT mix Process to CK CK. Reddy Road from Meesala Rajeswara Rao Bridge to Eluru locks with Rs.80 lakh, RR pet main road from Nuzvid Road to Yerrakattaramp via new RR pet and old RR pet with Rs.310 lakh and Bt hot mix to BRTS Road from Meesala Rajeswara Rao Bridge to Padavala Revu junction with Rs.250 lakh.

Employees, who are keen on enrolling their wards in international schools with CBSE syllabus, can heave a sigh of relief as some new private schools are coming up to cater to their needs. Many new private schools are advertising their facilities with the local media and public addressing systems to enable parents make an option.

The employees of the State, who will relocate to the city in June, are already looking out for competitive educational institutions for their children's education. Undoubtedly, Vijayawada is the most sought after destination for Intermediate education for the people of Telugu speaking States; except a few convents and other private institutions that offer high school education, it can be noted that the city lacks choice.

It may be noted that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had recently inaugurated the first international school KKR's Happy Valley School in Agiripalli which was set up by Gowtham Educational Institutions, with an investment of Rs.100 crore.

Slate the school, which is located in various places in Hyderabad, was the first institute to jump into the bandwagon. It had started the primary school from last academic year and completed their first anniversary recently.

DPS World School, a new chain of schools that promises to change the way people look at education of a child, is gearing up to enroll students in the new academic year at Kaza in the new capital region.

After making a mark in engineering education, the Vasireddy Venkatadri Institute of Technology (VVIT) group has embarked on VIVA, an international school between Guntur and Vijayawada.

The Delhi Public School (DPS), Vijayawada, is also planning to set up an international school in the capital region and has sought allocation of 20 acres of land for the purpose.

Viswa Bharathi educational institutions also have a plan for a residential school in an area of 20 acres.

Bhashyam Public School, Aravinda High School and Nellore Ravindra Bharathi are among the race to set up new branches in the capital region.

At present, there are 150 private institutions offering higher education and 10 schools that of fer CBSE and ICSE in the city.

IIT Madras is going to design better drainage system for Vijayawada city. IIT Madras has real time experience from recent floods in Chennai.

As Vijayawada city has water stagnation in every rainy season and thus the flow of drainages everywhere in the city, VMC has seeked to take an expertise help. All the major areas in Vijayawada like, Beasent Road, Eluru Road, Mogulrajpuram, Patamanta and other major areas have this problem. The situation of One town is even worse in rainy season, due to water stagnation. All this is because of poor drainage system.

As central government has allotted 461 crore for the storm water project, it has helped for VMC to take IIT Madras help, as there is no shortage of funds.

Once the government has approved the design and other technicalities of the project, IIT Madras will start the project works. VMC is planning to complete the project within 3 years.

NRI's from America are planning to construct a replica of Vijayawada Kanaka Durga Temple at Los Angels or Texas. If everything goes according to plans Bezawada Durgamma Darshan can be done in America also.

As a part of this, NRI's A. Ravi Kumar, Ch. Subba Rao, B. Ashok Kumar and B. Ram Prasad have asked the pujaris of durga temple to come and perform special pujas for one month from April 22 to May 22, which the Pujaris accepted. Trishati, Kadgamala, Lalitha Sahasranamam, Rudrabhishekam and Navanaanarchana will be performed during the one month period, in the weekends, where 300 300 couples will participate in the pujas.

King of fruits, Mango arrives at Asia's biggest mango market, the Nunna market.

The markets have begun with 100 tonnes of Banginapalli. The price of Banganapalli is hovering around Rs. 35,000 per tonne, to Rs. 45,000 per tonne, which is less compared to last year.

The recent hailstorm has left black spots on the fruit and also the production is less compared to last year.

The fruits from the market are exported to Delhi, Ahmedabad and also to Kolkata and Nepal.
