General Sir Arthur Thomas Cotton (15 May 1803 – 24 July 1899) was a British general and irrigation engineer. He is the father of krishna delta and godavari barrage,even now farmers residing in krishna -godavari delta worship him as a god.

Sir Arthur Cotton, the unmatched and towering personality in the world of engineering had played a crucial role to provide assured irrigation to lakhs of farmers who were haunted by famine and floods in the Godavari and Krishna delta region by constructing barrages across the two rivers.

He succeeded in completing the magnificent project on Godavari river at Dowleswaram in 1852.

After completing the Godavari Anicut Cotton shifted his attention to the construction of the Aqueduct on Krishna River. The project was sanctioned in 1851 and completed by 1855. After completing the Krishna and Godavari Anicuts, Cotton envisaged the storage of Krishna and Godavari river waters.

kanakadurga flyover 09052016

Andhra Pradesh Government has taken very prestigious for constructing the flyover near Kanaka Durga Temple. In this process they have to dig the piles in Krishna River to construct the pillars for the flyover. Below is the process.

The contract company has brought an advanced "Dredging Boat" from Goa. This will send reclamation pipelines and bring the sand out to the banks of the river. It will dig out 300 cubic meters pit in one hour. After that Iron Alignment will be placed in the pit and then concrete. In this whole process, they take care that water will not go into the pit.

The proposed Andhra Pradesh Secretariat complex at Velagapudi in the Amaravati capital region is likely to be completed much before the stipulated June 15 deadline.

Slab has been already completed for all the, G+1 buildings last month. The centering of the slab layed is being removed by the workers. The second slab would be laid by next week.

The finishing works of all the G+1 buildings would be done by this month end.

Rs. 230-crore contract related to the Secretariat complex consisting of five buildings has been awarded to construction majors L&T and Shapoorji Pallonji

buckingham canal 09052016

Buckingham Canal which is of 1,095-km-long National Waterway from Kakinada and Puducherry, is in for a major makeover to bring it back to its past glory. Buckingham Canal would flow from Kakinada to Puducherry, touching Chennai. This would play a big role in cargo and water transport. This would also help in tourism sector. Buckingham Canal if flowing about 888 km of the 1,095-km in Andhra Pradesh only. Once it is development, this will be very helpful in transport of cargo from East and West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore districts.

Recently Andhra Pradesh government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Inland Waterways Authority of India for the development of Buckingham Canal National Waterway 4 for Rs.3,000 crore. Based on the detailed project report, we can know the potential of cargo movement. Government is planning to complete the first Phase of the waterway by 2018-19.

The Buckingham Canal was started way back in 1806, as an 11-km saltwater navigation channel. Gradually it has extended up to Vijayawada till the Krishna River. Buckingham Canal was in service up to the late 1970s. Later it was damage by floods and gradually its has lost its glory.

vijayawada exhibition 09052016

This summer three exhibitions are entertaining Vijayawada Citizens. Every summer, there used to be only one exhibition in Vijayawada. Due to security reasons, as CM Camp office is nearer to PWD grounds, the permission is not given for the exhibition.

But don’t worry, there are three different exhibitions running in the three corners of the city. Residents in city can spend quality time with their family and friends and relish different delicacies and children can enjoy different games and amusements.

Below are the three exhibitions:

  • The Taj Mahal Exhibition at Satavahana College grounds. This exhibition is the biggest among the three, with around 200 stalls, food courts and amusements. The entry ticket is Rs.30. The Timings are from 3:00 pm- 10:00 pm
  • Trade Fair at Patamata Rythu Bazaar. Over 50 stalls are put up at the exhibition.
  • ‘Amaravati Utsavam 2016’ park at Vajra near A convention centre in Brindavan colony
