Gannavaram airport is getting ready for a huge expansion and in turn a phenomenal growth in both aircraft and passenger movements. The state government has finally cleared the allotment of 698 acres to the airport. District administration is going to handover the land to airport authorities very soon. If everything goes according to the plan, the new Interium Terminal would come into existence by November. By this year end, airport authorities are also planning to run flights to other countries from Gannavaram

The runway will be expanded by 739 meters from 2,286 meters and the aircrafts like Airbus 321 can also be handled by this. 10 parking bays were under construction in addition to the existing six. Five of them would be completed by this month-end and the remaining by August 31. When all these are ready, at a time 16 flights can be parked in the airport

A new technical block comprising an air traffic control tower with eight to 10 floors and advanced central navigation system among other paraphernalia would be constructed soon.

The parking bay of the passenger vehicles is also going to increase, where 300 cars can be parked.

Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, Minister of Railways, will flag off a new Tri-Weekly Express train between Vijayawada – Dharmavaram through remote video link from New Delhi on Tuesday.

Train No.07241 Vijayawada-Dharmavaram Inaugural Special Train will depart Vijayawada at 3.30 pm on July 12 and arrive or depart Guntur at 4.20 /4.25 pm and arrive Dharmavaram at 6.55am on the next day.

In the return direction, Train No. 07242 Dharmavaram-Vijayawada Special Train will depart Dharmavaram at 5.50 pm on July 13 and arrive/depart Guntur at 5.35am/5.40am and arrive Vijayawada at 4.50 pm on the next day.

Regular Train Timings (Commencing from July 16 Ex, Vijayawada and from July 17 Ex. Dharmavaram):Train No. 17215 Vijayawada-Dharmavaram Tri-Weekly Express will depart Vijayawada at 11.10 pm on Monday, Wednesday & Saturday, arrive/depart Guntur at 11.50/11.55 pm and arrive Dharmavaram at 10:45am on the next day. In the return direction, Train No. 17216 Dharmavaram-Vijayawada Tri-Weekly Express will depart Dharmavaram at 5.50 pm on Tuesday, Thursday & Sunday, arrive /depart Guntur at 5:35/5:40 pm and arrive Vijayawada at 6.50am on the next day.

The train would stop in Vijayawada, Guntur, Narasaropet, Vinukonda, Markapur Road, Giddalur, Nandyal, Dhone, Gooty, Anantapur, Dharmavaram

Andhra Pradesh Government has earned Rs.8,250 crore revenue from commercial taxes, according to the article published by "Times of India". This is the highest by any state in the country. Andhra Pradesh state has shown an increase of 23.63% in tax revenue for the quarter ended June 2016. Andhra Pradesh reported better revenue in the first quarter of the year, compared to the figures last year.

Here are the revenue sources from various departments:

  • The state received Rs 173 crore from tax on cigarettes
  • Rs 2,040 crore from liquor
  • Rs 2,208.83 crore from petroleum products
  • Rs 41.40 crore from major PSUs
  • Tax in the form of VAT and CST was reported at Rs 7812.70 crore
  • Income from other taxes totalled Rs 437.3 crore.

Cities Contributing:

  • Vijayawada stood first in the state with over Rs 999.96 crore revenue in the first quarter
  • Visakhapatnam stood in second position with Rs 430.56 crore
  • Kurnool stood in third position with Rs 247 crore
