Andhra CM Chandrababu Naidu carried out an aerial survey of the Polavaram project today and held meetings with officials from the Irrigation department to chart out plans for speedy completion of the prestigious project. He has also inagurated the new advanced machinery. Chief Minsiter is going to inspect Polavaram Project area every 3rd Satruday and review the work done. Government is planning to make the project a reality by completing the first phase by 2018.

While a total of 1,049 lakh cubic metres of earthwork was supposed to be done as part of the project construction, 410 lakh cubic meters has been completed so far. A 5.5-km spillway and spill channel were being constructed to enable discharge of 50 lakh cusecs of water, the largest in the world.

Upon completion, the dam and its canals will irrigate 2.91 lakh hectares (7.2 lakh acres) and supply drinking water to a population of 28.50 lakh living in 540 villages and divert 80 tmcft of water to the Krishna River Basin.

United Kingdom based Toyota Tsusho Sugar Trading Limited (TTSTL) Company is going to setup Sugar Refinery in Nellore. The plant is going to come up near Krishnapatnam in Nellore district, with an investment of Rs.450 crores.

Toyota Tsusho Sugar Trading Limited CEO Hiroyuki Ikeda, met Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in Vijayawada. TTSTL are willing to establish 3,000-tonne-per-day refinery, which will provide direct employment to 600 and indirectly upto 1000.

Mr. Chandrababu Naidu assured to TTSTL that, state government will provide full cooperation in the form of various financial incentives and infrastructure.

Water sports lovers in Vijayawada city have something to cheer. The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) has launched the much-awaited joyrides in the Krishna Eastern Main Canal passing through the city. Soon after the launch, the joy rides on speedboats in the canal evoked a good response from the denizens. The banks of the canal was abuzz with crowds on Sunday, as adventure buffs tested their mettle in the canal by riding speed boats with zeal and enthusiasm.

A six-minute joyride will cost Rs.300 and the boat can accommodate three persons. Tickets can be purchased from boating point at Berm Park. The ride will start from the Canal near Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) office on Canal Road and it will pass through Navy Park and Prakasan Barrage before ending at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram.

The Doondy Ganesh Utsava Committee which set up a gigantic clay Ganesha idol is now eyeing on Guinness book of World Records.

A massive laddu which weighs 31,000 kilos was specially prepared in Tapeswaram and is being brought to the city in a special vehicle.

The organisers of Doondy Ganesha UtSava Committee are claiming that the laddu is first of its kind and will create a Guinness Book Record.

vijayawada skoch awards 12092016

The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (WMC) has bagged Skoch Smart Governance Award for implementing various technology-enabled initiatives. The award was received by municipal commissioner G Veerapandian and mayor Koneru Sridhar at the 45th Skoch Summit held in Hyderabad on Friday.

The VMC was among the few government organisations conferred with the award from more than 100 contestants from different parts of the country.

Five of the VMC projects, including Solar City, Digital Door Numbering System (DDNS), Integrated Online Development Permission Management System (DPMS), Aadhaar-enabled Biometric Attendance System (AEBAS) and VMC-SMART City Mobile application, had been adjudged amongst the Top-100 Projects in India for 2016 in the Skoch Smart City Award

Meanwhile, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday lauded the efforts of the VMC for bagging the Skoch Smart Governance Award. He also directed the municipal Commissioner to implement more such initiatives for the better functioning of the civic body.
