The first total knee surgery was performed in the Government General Hospital (GGH) free of cost on Friday at Guntur. GGH doctor’s successfully conducted total knee surgery for Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas on January 22nd. GGH has decided to conduct knee surgeries free of cost to the common public.

On Friday, GGH doctors led by Dr.M.Prasanth with the cooperation of famous knee transplant surgeon from Sai Bhaskar Multispecialty Hospital, Dr.Busireddy Narender Redy successfully conducted knee replacement surgery to a woman patient, Vijayalakshmi of Pallagirit Village, Nandigama Mandal, Krishna District. Dr.Narendar Reddy donated the implants.

GGH has asked government to supply implants to perform knee surgeries free of cost to public. Presently GGH will continue knee surgeries by taking implants from the philanthropists as donations.

Guntur Municipal Corporation is going to beautify the roads of Guntur city. Entire stretch of road from Gorantla to Lodge Centre will be beautified, which also includes Amaravati Road. The beautification will cover central divider of the roads, bus bays, bus shelter, footpaths. The proposals are prepared by leading designer, Team One India, architects based out of Hyderabad. They also have given plans to design a water body at Budampadu on Ponnur Road, which includes a walking track, children’s park.

Municipal Commissioner S. Nagalakshmi, reviewed the proposals given by the firm and said that the tenders would be called very soon.

The restrictions will be implemented from February 6th to March 21st. The areas of CM Camp Office, State Guest House, Rythu Bazar, Gopala Reddy Road, Nakkal Road, Dornakal road will be under 144 section.

According to this, people are not allowed to move in groups of more than five persons. People should not carry sticks, stones and any other such material.

Over 1000 cyclists are going to take part in the Mega Cyclothon event on February 7th, Sunday. The event would be organized jointly by Andhra Bicycling Club, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation and Vijayawada Police Commissionerate. The Rally would start at 6 AM on Sunday at Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium. The route includes, IGMC Stadium, Benz Circle, Ramavarappadu Ring, Gunadala, Old Bus Stand, MG Road and back to IGMC Stadium

Anybody who is interested could take part in the event with his or her own cycle irrespective of registration. Those who do not have a cycle too can turn up at the venue with a copy of Aadhar card so that cycle will be provided depending on availability. Water and other drinks would be provided on the track and also ambulance services would be provided.

The event is aimed to inculcate the habit of cycling among the denizens of Vijayawada city. The organizers said that similar events would be conducted every first Sunday of every month here after.
